History of Tacy
Do you love the Lucy & Desi movie “The Long, Long Trailer”? Now you can stay in one! The Starlite is proud to have as one of it’s rental units a New Moon trailer as used in the movie! In the movie Tacy and Nicki (Ball and Arnez) buy a 1954 New Moon and embark on their honeymoon, so we call this our Honeymoon Suite!
Tacy’s beautiful birchwood interior features a spacious living room with period correct furnishings and decor with large picture windows.
Just past the living room is the dining area.
Full size kitchen with double sink, oven and a full size refrigerator. Dishes and basic cookware is included, as well as a coffee pot. Just bring your own food and have dinner 1950’s style!
As you proceed down the hallway you will find several roomy closets plus a full size pantry on the left, to the right is a full size bathroom with a lavatory sink, full size tub with shower and a household style toilet.
The bedroom is in the rear of the coach. Tacy sleeps four, with twin beds in the bedroom (even newlyweds slept in twin beds in the 1950’s TV & movies!) and a double sofa sleeper in the living room. The bedroom has it’s own outside door.
Outside amenities include large shade trees, a white picket fence, picnic table, chairs and a fire pit. A beautiful restored 1950 Dodge adds to the decor.
In the movie Tacy collects rocks from all over the country... We encourage our guests to bring a rock to sign and add to our “rock garden”!
Tacy was built in 1954 by New Moon Homes, a division of Redman Trailer Company in Alma, Michigan. We don’t know of her early life but was last used as a vacation home in Northern Vermont before we purchased her in 2010 and had it brought by truck to Colorado. We had searched for an original New Moon as used in the movie, while the movie trailer was also 1954 model the only change is the front window is slightly different, the movie version was modified for a particular scene. One may notice other interior variations from scenes in the movie, however all interior shots were actually filmed on a set and were modified to aid in some gag shots (such as the step in the living room Desi trips over).
